Funds For Learning to Appear as Special Guest on The Balancing Act

On Nov. 15, Cathy Cruzan, president of Funds For Learning, will appear on Lifetime Television as a special guest on The Balancing Act to discuss the need for 21st century technology in the classroom.

EDMOND, OKLA. (Nov. 7, 2011) – Funds For Learning, the nation’s largest E-rate compliance firm, announces that Cathy Cruzan, president of Funds For Learning, will appear aside Donald Knezek, CEO of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), on The Balancing Act. The appearance, slated to air on Nov 15., will highlight how the Internet and other 21st century technologies are revolutionizing the classroom.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to appear on The Balancing Act and discuss the role that E-rate is playing in shaping today’s classroom,” said Cruzan. “There are many schools that are in desperate need of technological upgrades and short on available funding. The E-rate program is a resource that schools can leverage to close this divide.”

The E-rate program provides discounts on certain services and products that are essential for classrooms and libraries to receive voice, video and data communications. The amount of the discount depends on the level of poverty and location of the applicant, ranging from 20 percent to 90 percent of the cost of eligible services.

“Many schools are facing budgetary challenges and nearly all of them are eligible for some level of discount on telecommunications services,” said Cruzan. “Funds For Learning wants to see schools get the funding needed to transform their classrooms.”

Funds For Learning (FFL) is an E-rate compliance firm specializing in guiding E-rate applicants and service providers through the complex and ever-changing E-rate regulatory process. To date, FFL has prepared nearly $1 billion in E-rate applications for schools across the nation.

Cruzan applauds the efforts of The Balancing Act to highlight the issue of technology in the classroom and the important role that the E-rate plays in the process, adding that “parents and community members should actively encourage their school districts to participate in [E-rate].”

“Better technology, when coupled with dedicated educators, can produce better schools and students,” said Cruzan. “Better schools and students produce better communities. E-rate can indirectly enhance the community, as much as it directly enhances the school.”

Teachers, parents and community members who are interested in finding out if their district participates in the E-rate program can visit www.fundsforlearning.com/balancingact for more information.

In addition to the Nov. 15 airing, encore presentations will be shown on Dec. 6 and 27. Viewers should check their local listings for channel and air times.
