At Funds for Learning, we highly value our team members, your guides! This week, let us introduce you to Candy Miller, Compliance Associate. Candy has been a part of the FFL team for three years.

What are three words to describe you?
Indefatigable, Reserved and Dedicated

What are your favorite things to do outside work?
Cake decorating, taking my son Pokémon hunting and TV series binge watching with my husband

What is your current favorite TV show and why?
Game of Thrones, the show does a wonderful job capturing extreme contrasts: beauty with pain, cruelty with honor, whimsical plots (white walkers and dragons) with worldly plots (affairs and murder plots aplenty). These contrasts reinforce the vast edges of a reality while enabling your imagination to fill in the gaps.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be and why (calories don’t count in this scenario)?
Cheesecake, think about all the yummy varieties! Caramel pecan turtle (my favorite), lemon raspberry, chocolate peanut butter and even coffee cheesecake to sooth my coffee cravings.

How long have you worked here at FFL?
Overall, just over 3 years. I did take an 8-month break before returning at the beginning of this year.  I couldn’t imagine a week without E-rate and I just love working with everyone here at FFL!

What is your favorite E-rate filing window memory?
I have many, however my favorite memories have to do with the small things, like a co-worker asking if you need a Diet Coke and a cookie when you have been diligently working and haven’t had a chance to get it yourself. Or an encouraging all-company meeting acknowledging, with specificity, the good work in those around you.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
I am always learning new things while being able to share what I have learned. Each day brings new challenges and rewards.

How have you seen one or more of the Funds For Learning GuideMarks displayed during your time at FFL?
At one time or another I have seen all the GuideMarks displayed during my time at FFL. From Teamwork and Commitment during the Filing Window as we all worked together to get the E-rate applications completed. To Work By Design and Intentional Learning as we are continually plan ahead and finding better ways to achieve the goals for our clients. Enhancing our skills and expertise while fostering a work environment that encourages all the GuideMarks.

If you could pick one theme for Funds For Learning to turn into a book about the company, what would it be?
Exceptional Pieces. Each of us here at FFL have our individual strengths (tessellating pieces), skills (border pieces) and personalities (oddly shaped interlocking pieces) but each piece together produces a beautifully crafted finished picture (E-rate Funding).
