SLD Delays Next Wave to Extend Installation Deadline

The Schools and Libraries Division announced February 20 that the wave of Year 4 funding commitments that would normally be distributed on February 22 will be delayed until on or after March 1.

The SLD said that the wave was delayed for two reasons. First, applicants whose funding commitments are delayed until after March 1 of a funding year are automatically given an additional year in which to complete their one-time installations. Thus applicants who do not receive their Year 4 funding commitments until after that date will have until Sept. 30, 2003 to complete those projects. Commitments associated with recurring services must still be used during the traditional funding year, in this case from July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2002.

In addition, the SLD said that by delaying the next wave, it hopes it will have enough time to complete the bulk of its review work and set the final funding threshold for internal connections in what would become its last regular wave for Funding Year 4.

At that time, those schools and libraries whose applications are still under review will be notified of that fact. Their funding commitments could still be issued in the future, but not as part of a regular wave.
