Rosenworcel Confirmation Moves Forward

On Thursday, November 17, Sens. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.) placed a hold on Jessica Rosenworcel’s confirmation to the Federal Communications Commission. The Washington Post reports that a spokesperson stated that Markey questioned Rosenworcel’s commitment "to pro-consumer, pro-competition policies." On Friday, however, Morning Consult reported that the Senators’ formal objections had been lifted, with a Wyden spokesperson stating that the Senator was "assured that Commissioner Rosenworcel is committed to working toward consensus on all items before the commission this year…"

In 2014, FCC Chairman Wheeler credited Rosenworcel for serving as a "longtime advocate for the E-rate program". Jessica Rosenworcel also coined the term “homework gap” to describe the lack of adequate Internet access for millions of American students after they leave school.
