Congress Urges GAO to Review FCC’s Plan

On January 9, 2018, Representatives Frank Pallone, Jr and Peter Welch from the House Energy and Commerce Committee wrote a letter to the Government Accounting Office inquiring if they could review the FCC decision to transfer the Universal Service Fund to the U.S. General Treasury. The Congressional letter further articulated that the “core tenants of the FCC’s mission, and any transfer should only follow close review and rigorous oversight” and is requesting that the GAO review the “practical and legal effects” of this transfer.
