Comment Deadline: Security Threat NPRM

On January 3, 2019, the Federal Communications Commission’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding equipment which poses “a national security threat to the integrity of communications networks or the communications supply chain” was included in the Federal Register.

In its NPRM, the FCC seeks comment on requiring “USF recipients that are eligible telecommunications carriers (ETCs) to remove existing equipment and services produced or provided by covered companies from their networks,” but “does not propose to subject other USF recipients, like rural health care providers or schools and libraries, to the prohibition on the receipt of USF funds nor to the removal and replacement requirement.”

Comments are due February 20, with reply comments due March 3.
