SLD Distributes Another $34 Million in 3rd Wave

The Schools and Libraries Division announced July 23 that it has distributed another 1,400 funding commitment letters providing another $34 million in funding commitments for E-rate applicants in 1999-2000. That brings the total committed so far to $137 million, or 6 percent of the $2.25 billion in funding available for the second year of the program. The SLD said that with the latest wave, it has responded, at least in part, to more than one-fourth of the 32,000 applications it received in Year 2.

Two-thirds of the amount distributed in the third wave was designated for telecommunications services and Internet access, with the rest going for internal connections.

The Schools and Libraries Division issued its second wave of commitments for the 1999 funding year July 16 and announced that it would be able to fund internal connections requests at least down to the 70 percent discount level.
