SLD President Moore to Step Down

Kate Moore, president of the Schools and Libraries Division, will step down, effective June 11, the Universal Service Administrative Company announced May 30. George McDonald, director of operations for the SLD, was named acting president until a permanent successor can be appointed.

A USAC press release said that Moore will "pursue a teaching opportunity under a program designed to bring seasoned professionals into the teaching profession." A USAC spokesman said additional details could not be released at this time.

Moore joined the Schools and Libraries Corporation in November 1997, having served as chief financial officer of the United Way of America. In August 1998, she succeeded Ira Fishman as acting CEO of the SLC, and then was named president of the SLD when the agency was reorganized in January 1999.

USAC CEO Cheryl Parrino said, "All schools and libraries owe Kate a great deal for her accomplishments on their behalf. She will be sorely missed as she has capably led the SLD team over the past three years."

McDonald joined the SLC shortly after Moore did. He had previously worked with Moore as deputy director for budget and program performance at the U.S. Department of Transportation.
