SLD Lowers Year 4 Threshold to 86 Percent

The Schools and Libraries Division announced March 15 that it would be able to fund Year 4 internal connections requests from applicants with a discount rate of 86 percent as it said it was wrapping up the bulk of its Year 4 funding commitment letters.

The SLD said that the latest wave, number 15, would total $147.6 million, bringing the total committed to $2.25 billion. At the same time, it said there were "a small number of applications with unique circumstances that SLD is still working to complete." It said that money would be reserved for those applicants, and as their applications are completed, they would receive funding commitment letters. The SLD also said it would notify applicants who are included in that category. The Federal Communications Commission had authorized the SLD to commit more than its usual $2.25 billion cap this year in light of applicants' historical failure to actually use all of the funds that were set aside for them.
