SLD Releases FY04-05 Funding Waves; Hurricane Katrina Affected Schools Receive FY05 Committments

On April 12th the SLD committed $22,532,878.51 in Wave 43 for the 2005 Funding Year, which brings the total committed amount to $1,519,490,056 with $993,962,288 still pending. Approximately $253 million has been utilized, roughly 17% of the 2005 committed funds. The SLD committed $3,704,603.68 for priority two (internal connections and basic maintenance) at the 88% discount threshold. However, the SLD recently recommended to the FCC that they can fund all the priority two requests at the 81% discount rate. It is unclear when the FCC will approve that recommendation.

The SLD funded more Hurricane Katrina special applications this funding wave and has committed $6,976,694.51 to date. At least 21 applicants have received commitments for 2005, and there have been no FRNs that have been completely denied as of Wave 43 for the 2005 Funding Year.

The SLD also notified three applicants about the status of their 2004 requests this week, committing $1,552,866.95 which leaves $224,520,923 still pending.
