American Library Association Visits FCC to Discuss Broadband Issues

The American Library Association (ALA) recently met with FCC officials to discuss public libraries need for greater broadband. The ALA research shows that a little over half of public libraries report that they have filed an individual application and believe the E-rate application process is a major hurdle in public libraries filing for E-rate support to help with their connectivity needs.

Here are a few of ALA’s goals for public library connectivity.

  • Every public library has at least one dedicated T1 connection
  • Libraries should form consortia to aggregate their purchasing power
  • Public libraries need technical and planning assistance
