Iowa Schools Seeking Special E-rate Relief

The Iowa Department of Education on behalf of schools and libraries in the state petitioned the FCC for special relief due to catastrophic storms and floods suffered by the state in the last months. Specifically, asking the FCC to open a new FY 2008 filing window similar to that allowed in the Ysleta Decision and the Katrina Order.  The State is also seeking relief from many E-rate competitive bidding requirements, deadlines and certifications.  The Iowa Department of Education further estimates that the damage to E-rate eligible services and equipment is approximately $3 million and that the FCC can use part of the $600 million in roll over dollars for FY 2008 for this specific purpose.
