FCC Releases Public Notice on EDU Pilot Program

The FCC has published the Public Notice which provides additional detail on the E-rate Deployed Ubiquitously (EDU) 2011 Pilot Program application process. EDU will support off-campus wireless connectivity for mobile learning devices.

The EDU Pilot Program will only support wireless projects that are already underway or that have been planned, but just awaiting funding for the project. EDU will not provide support for the portable devices or equipment, but only the connectivity services.

As part of the FCC’s Sixth Report and Order the FCC authorized up to $10 million for FY2011 for a pilot program in order for the FCC to assess “‚Ķthe merits and challenges of wireless off-premises connectivity services‚Ķ”

The deadline for submitting an application is December 17, 2010.
