Commissioner Clyburn Appointed Acting FCC Chairwoman

On May 20, 2013, President Barack Obama appointed Mignon Clyburn to be acting FCC Chairwoman pending Tom Wheeler’s Senate confirmation, which is likely to start after the Memorial Day recess.  On March 22, 2013, FCC Chairman Genachowski announced that he would be stepping down.

Acting Chairwoman Clyburn joined the FCC in August 2009, and will be the first woman in FCC history to be appointed to the position.
