Wi-Fi Upgrades Coming.C2 Changes Needed

51% of E-rate applicants plan to upgrade their Wi-Fi within the next one to three years, according to a nationwide survey. Schools and libraries appear poised for another round of upgrades to their networks, and most rely on the E-rate program to provide the financial support necessary to complete the projects.
82% of school survey respondents believe that the current C2 budget cap is set too low to meet their needs. Said one respondent, “E-rate Category 2 funding needs to increase to fund the growing demands for Wi-Fi access for students.” Most them support an increase in the budget cap to $250 per student and a change to a district-level budget system rather than the current site-specific budget calculations.
