Funding Year 2023 Starts Strong

Continuing a pattern of early activity for Funding Year 2023, a record number of 465 Form 471 funding applications were filed on the first day of the filing window, which opened at noon Eastern time on January 18.  First-day applications for FY2023 represent a 20% increase over first-day applications filed in FY2022, and an almost 60% increase from FY2021:

A total of 396 unique applicants filed first-day applications for FY2023, with the majority being filed by school district applicants:

Other fast facts about first-day applications include:

  • The pre-discount requested amount of all first-day applications for FY2023 was $22.7M
  • The average school district size filing first-day applications for FY2023 was 2,953 students
  • Between FY2016 and FY2023, 315 applicants filed first-day applications in more than one Funding Year
  • Between FY2016 and FY2023, 21 applicants filed first-day applications in four or more Funding Years
