2023 IEEW Leadership Development: Empowerment for All

The highly anticipated 2023 graduation ceremony for the Institute for economic Empowerment of Women’s (IEEW) Leadership Development program was held on July 21, 2023 at Oklahoma Christian University (OCU). The event celebrated the achievement of a dynamic and inspiring group of women leaders from diverse backgrounds who successfully completed their Leadership Development program.

The annual event is designed to empower women entrepreneurs from Afghanistan and Rwanda through the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® (PTB) program. The program equips women entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to reach their full potential as leaders. Its mission is rooted in promoting and fostering economic self-sufficiency and encouraging sustainable, economic development strategies for women.

The class of 2023 was exceptional consisting of women entrepreneurs and community leaders from Afghanistan and Rwanda, each with unique stories of courage, resilience, and ambition. The 2023 Leadership Development program started early in the year and included intensive curriculum of in-person and online sessions, networking, one-on-one mentoring, and community outreach initiatives. Despite challenges presented by the ongoing global circumstances, the women involved showed an unyielding spirit, adapting and persevering to complete their course.

At the graduation ceremony, several graduates shared their experiences and learning journeys throughout the program, providing insights into how the Leadership Development Program has transformed their lives. One of the moving moments of the ceremony was the presentation of the Impact award, recognizing outstanding women who had made significant contributions to their community and exhibited exceptional leadership skills.

Our very own Funds For Learning President, Cathy Cruzan, and Chair of IEEW Board, had the honor of emceeing the event, alongside Dr. Mamiko Reeves, Assistant Vice President and Dean, International Programs and Northwood University.
