With the new school year underway, it’s time to turn attention back to E-rate. Whether you’re managing a single school, a district, or a library system, staying ahead of seasonal deadlines and program updates is key to keeping your funding on track.
The Cybersecurity Pilot Program has entered Phase Two. If your organization was selected, make sure to complete Part 2 of FCC Form 484 by September 15. This step requires detailed information about your cybersecurity plans and current protections. The Form 470 deadline for competitive bidding is August 18, and Form 471 must be submitted by September 15. These dates are firm—missing them could mean losing your spot in the pilot.
For all applicants, Form 486 filing should be a top priority. This form confirms your services have started and that your organization complies with CIPA. It’s due within 120 days of your service start date or the date of your funding commitment letter—whichever is later. If you’re part of a consortium, make sure all members have submitted signed Form 479s.
Invoicing is also active. Before submitting any invoices, confirm that your service provider has filed a Form 473. Depending on your setup, you’ll use either the BEAR (Form 472) or SPI (Form 474) method. Just remember: invoices can only be submitted after services begin and Form 486 is approved.
Finally, start preparing your NSLP data for discount calculations. Whether you’re using direct certification or CEP, accurate student eligibility data is essential. Make sure your documentation is up to date and ready for review.
