SLD Inching Closer to its Funding Cap

The Schools and Libraries Division has distributed E-rate funding commitment letters totaling another $110 million, bringing the total committed for the second funding year to $1.85 billion. That represents 82 percent of the maximum it will be permitted to commit this year.

Through the latest wave, Number 19, the SLD said it had committed about 76 percent of the total to school districts and 2.7 percent to libraries and library systems. Commitments to applicants with discount rates of 90 percent represent about 25 percent of the total, and commitments to applicants with discount rates of between 80 and 89 percent represent 29.5 percent of the total.

As the SLD winds up the last of the funding commitments for the second funding year, it has opened the filing window in which schools and libraries can file their Form 471 applications for the funding year that will run from July 1, 2000 to June 30, 2001.
