Year Two Commitments Pass the $1 Billion Mark

The Schools and Libraries Division announced Oct. 4 that it has passed the $1 billion mark for Year Two E-rate funding commitments by distributing another $168 million in Wave 13.

The latest wave, which sent out 700 letters, included a $61 million commitment to the New York City Public Schools and $57 million to the Puerto Rico Department of Education. When those two awards are subtracted, the wave represented a total of $50 million to other applicants. So far, the SLD has committed 45 percent of the $2.25 billion it has available for the funding year that runs from July 1, 1999 to June 30, 2000.
