SLD Releases $14.8 Million in Commitments for 2003

The Schools and Libraries Division announced that on June 2 it will distribute another $14.8 million worth of 2003 E-rate funding commitments in 74 letters averaging about $200,000 each. This wave marks the 30th for the funding year that began last July 1.

The SLD has approved more than $2.5 billion worth of requests for the 2003 funding year, but it has not yet issued a commitment letter for approximately $600 million in additional requests. Last year, the SLD announced that it had substantially wrapped up its commitment work by the end of June. The SLD is currently alternating between commitment waves for the 2004 funding year, which starts July 1, and the 2003 funding year. Applicants whose commitments for non-recurring services are approved on or after March 1, 2003 will have until September 30, 2005 to make use of their discounts.
