On May 31, 2013, the Federal Communications Commission Office of Inspector General (OIG) released their Semi-Annual Report to Congress, which covers activity from October 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013. Much of the OIG’s work is tied to “investigating and supporting civil and criminal prosecutions” of fraud in the four Universal Service programs.
The OIG issued a compliance audit of a public charter school in December 2012; the audit disclosed that the applicant did not comply with FCC rules tied to:
- Procurement
- Reimbursement
- Record Retention
- Tracking E-rate Assets
Based on these audit findings, the OIG is recommending a recovery of $292,444. Further information on preparing for an audit can be found on Funds For Learning’s E-rate Resource Center.
