Proposed Update to Definition of Eligible Libraries

On September 30, 2021, the FCC proposed revisions to the definition of library in the E-rate program rules to clarify that Tribal libraries are eligible to participate in the E-rate program. Certain Tribal libraries have been unable to receive support from the E-rate program because they did not meet the definition of a library in the Commission’s rules. The FCC’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeks comment on whether the Commission should consider any other measures to ensure eligible Tribal entities have access to the E-rate program.
