On November 15, 2022, Funds For Learning submitted a straightforward proposal for a pilot cybersecurity E-rate program. The basic request is that the Federal Communications Commission would:
- Provide funding for advanced firewalls as a pilot program for three years, with support capped at $60 million per year.
- Initiate a public comment period to solicit feedback from the community regarding the need for cybersecurity support.
- Coordinate with other federal agencies in crafting a long-term cybersecurity plan.
This proposal would provide timely support for school and libraries while allowing the FCC additional time to consider the long-term needs associated with providing cybersecurity support.
