UEI Requirement for Applicants Coming Soon

In its February 16, 2023 News Brief, USAC announced that starting in the second quarter of 2023, all E-rate applicants must have an active SAM.gov assigned Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) to submit a new, or modify an existing, Form 498.  The announcement comes after a similar announcement was made for service providers in September of 2022.

The changes to the FCC Form 498 for applicants are the result of an April 2022 FCC Public Notice announcing a transition from the Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number to the Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) for SAM.gov effective April 4, 2022. In its News Brief, USAC suggest that applicants complete “SAM.gov registration as early as possible, so that you have your UEI when it is required to be used during the second quarter of 2023.” The exact date of the transition will be announced by USAC at a later date.
